The Magic Planet Community

Global
Imagination believes that the relationship we have with our customers is the
most important part of our business. Our goal is to make sure that customers,
both existing and new, receive a high impact return on their Magic Planet
investment in the shortest possible time. To that end, Community is a place to
share exhibits, “stock footage” and animation templates, as well as ideas,
expertise and feedback.
Both existing and new
customers gain ready-made tailorable exhibit solutions and promotional media,
as well as access to a broad base of expertise that will help leverage their
efforts. The Magic Planet Community is a place where our customers can interact
easily with each other and with Global Imagination.
In concrete terms, the
Magic Planet Community consists of two things: first, a repository of exhibits,
animations and templates contributed by our customers, our partners, and by Global
Imagination; and second, a searchable bulletin board where customers can ask
questions, look for answers, and chat with other members.
The repository of exhibits,
animations and templates serves two purposes. First, it serves to reduce the
cost of building exhibits and promotional media, and second, it exposes an
organization’s work to potentially hundreds of thousands of people who view the
Magic Planet annually.
By starting from a
ready-made template that’s very close to what they want, customers can
significantly reduce the time and money it takes to complete their exhibit or
media, and begin recouping their investment. In some cases, they can have a
complete, polished exhibit up and running the same day that they install their
Magic Planet.
Our
customers were the
first to express the benefits of exposing their organization’s work to
potentially hundreds of thousands of addition people annually who see the Magic
Planet. Customers understood that if they produced exhibits and animations
used by other Community members, they would receive “brand awareness” from the
ultimate viewer of the exhibit. For example, when NASA produces an exhibit
such as their solar system exhibit, the touchscreen has the NASA logo. As a
result, whenever the exhibit is seen, the viewer associates the exhibit with both
NASA and the organization who displays the exhibit. A number of organizations
have chosen to use NASA’s exhibit as the basis for their own “tour of the solar
system”. In this way, tens of thousands of additional people see NASA’s
exhibit every year as a result of NASA’s commitment to the Magic Planet
Community.
The
Community is also a
place that customers can go to access to a broad range of expertise in a wide
range of disciplines – in other words, they can use the Community as a resource
when they need help. It’s an “active” knowledge base. If they can’t find an
answer by searching through the various topics, they can post a question and
get a quick reply. In addition, they can post “domain specific” questions -
questions that are specific to their particular expertise (e.g. “how would you
suggest I illustrate dinosaur migration? Where can I go to get the background
data?”, or “I’d like to have a background of fireworks for my product launch
video on the Magic Planet. Where can I get it, or how do I create it?”). They
can expect an answer, sample or template from another Community member with
similar expertise. As with the repository, this can substantially reduce the
time and effort that goes into building and maintaining an exhibit or media.

EARTHQUAKE! Life
on a Restless Planet
The
exhibit is designed to give the public a "real feel" for
earthquakes and the cutting-edge seismic research taking place at Scripps
Institution of Oceanography. A variety of interactive displays help visitors
explore what causes earthquakes, why they occur where they do, how scientists
study earthquakes, and how this research benefits society. By providing a
global perspective, the Magic Planet is especially effective for facilitating
understanding of key exhibit concepts, including plate tectonics, and the
relationship between seismic activity and plate boundaries.
